The last song - by Justin Stankevich
I can hear them singing,
their faltered lyrics I hear
The moans and groans I hear
Oh, how I hear.
The last whisper of the poor,
The final regrets of the lonely.
Oh, how I hear
The women crying as she hangs the rope,
The man as he loads his gun.
Oh, how i hear them
They all sing the same tune.
The tune of the soon departing.
their faltered lyrics I hear
The moans and groans I hear
Oh, how I hear.
The last whisper of the poor,
The final regrets of the lonely.
Oh, how I hear
The women crying as she hangs the rope,
The man as he loads his gun.
Oh, how i hear them
They all sing the same tune.
The tune of the soon departing.

The last song is a song about the tragedy of suicide. Everyone around the world, regardless of where they are from, shows the same symptoms. This poem is based off of "I Hear America Singing" By Walt Whitmen. It takes a quite different turn from that poem, however. While Whitmen's poem is about how joyous America is, "The last song" is about the dark things that are actually happening underneath the facade of America.
